DURING this preseason 288 pound DT Ty Robinson was able to dominate the interior (mostly) by using his strength, combined with his above average movement skills. To keep it 100 though, that was mostly against second string players. Facing starters, he may find that at 288, his strength is nothing special on the inside.
So here’s how we maximize him. Most OT’s these days are used to facing 250, 255, and 260 pound DE’s, reliant on speed and quickness to get to the QB. Used on the edge however, Robinson has the power and movement skill to set a hard edge vs the run, and fight his way through when passrushing. Think of him bigger, stronger Brandon Graham.
To be able to rotate Robinson with DE’s Jalyx Hunt and Jonathan Greenard, would give us years of security on the ends.
